Mrs. Mary Jean A. Bak

Amherst- Mary Jean (nee: Stigel) Bak died on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.

She was born in Lorain, Ohio, and lived in that city until 1973 when she and her family moved to Amherst. She attended Holy Trinity School and Lorain public schools, graduating from Lorain High School in June, 1946. She also attended Lorain Business College.

After graduation, she was employed by T. Edward McNamara & Associates Insurance Adjusters, Cleveland; The Land Title Guarantee & Trust Company, Cleveland; The Dingle-Clark Company, Cleveland; and the National Tube Company, Lorain Works. She worked for the latter firm in the billing bureau until just prior to the birth of her first child.

She was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, St. Ann�s Branch 114. She enjoyed gardening, reading, drawing and painting, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and studying Native American culture and birds.

Survivors include her sons, Philip (Angela) of Amherst Township and Daniel (Lora) of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; and grandchildren Sarah, Matthew, Maria, and Anna. She was preceded in death by Edmund, her husband of 42 years; her parents, Adolph and Anna (nee: Sonoga) Stigel; and her sisters, Anne Klein and Dorothy Armstrong.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 12-2 & 6-8 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Nativity B.V.M. Church, 418 West 15th Street, Lorain, with Fr. Robert Glepko, Pastor, officiating and Deacon Robert Dybo, assisting. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
