Berardino Giardini

Lorain - Berardino Giardini, 75, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 2, 1941 in Pescina, Abruzzo region of Italy to his loving parents, Giovanni and Maria (nee: DeLuca) Giardini.

He worked as a young boy in Italy and served his country in the Italian military before coming to America in 1966 following in the footsteps of his three uncles, pursuing the American dream. He became a US citizen and found work in Lorain. Three years later he returned to Italy to visit family and met the love of his life Rosanna (nee: DiNicola) whom he married in Italy in 1969. Berardino returned to America with his wife in February 1970. He started work as a mechanic for Bob Beck Chevrolet. At times, Benny had two and three jobs to provide for his family.  He began his career with the City of Lorain as a mechanic, and after 40 years, retired as Superintendent.  He was hard working, dedicated to his family and a faithful member of the former Church of St. Peter, now St. Peter Parish in Lorain.  He enjoyed gardening, traveling, especially returning to Italy and loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Rosanna Giardini; children, Alessandro (Victoria) Giardini, Giovanni (Sanda) Giardini, Rosemarie (Gus) Marzavas; grandchildren, Joshua Dunlap: and James and Evangeline Marzavas; sister, Vincenzina (Osvaldo) Guagnozzi of Italy; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins in America and Italy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:50 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM, Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave, Lorain, Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain. Online condolences may be sent using www.rsgfuneralhome.com.
