Christina Del Grosso obituary

August 14, 1927 to October 2, 2012

Written by: Noreen, Michael, Carol and Matthew Del Grosso

Christina (Tina) Del Grosso nee DiFrancesco, was 85 years old when she passed away on October 2, 2012 in Atlanta, GA.  Tina died a peaceful death from natural causes with her two sons and one of her grandsons at her side.  Tina was born in Lorain, Ohio on August 14, 1927.  After her husband Matthew died in 2005, Tina moved to California and lived with her daughter Noreen, her son Michael, and her younger sister Anita Churpek.  The last 2 years she was living in Atlanta, GA with her younger son, Matthew.

Tina is survived by her four children, Noreen Knapp who resides in Paso Robles, California, Michael Del Grosso who resides in Campbell, California, Carol Ormond who resides in Swansboro, North Carolina and Matthew Del Grosso who resides in Tampa, Florida.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, Rachelle Knapp, Michael B. Del Grosso, Christina Neuberger, Katherine (Kate) M. Del Grosso, Anthony Del Grosso and the late Kelly Aldrich. She was also blessed with one great grandchild, Kenneth Michael.

Tina was one of seven children born into the Erminio and Rachel DiFrancesco family.  Tina is survived by her six siblings Marino, Arthur Stephen, Paul, Franklin, Dolores Tompkins and Anita Churpek.  She maintained a close relationship with all of her brothers and sisters and frequently attended the Annual DiFrancesco Family Reunion, held here in Lorain.

All through Tina's life she was activity involved with her family, church and the community of Lorain.  She was a devout Catholic and, an active member of Saint Peter's Church and School.  It was nothing for Tina to cook meals for the Sisters of Notre Dame, who at the time of Noreen's and Michael's elementary years would prepare monthly meals for the Sisters.  She was active in the school's PTA and frequently cooked spaghetti dinners at St. Peters as well.

Tina was a devoted wife and mother.  She was married in Saint Peter's church on January 22, 1949.  She was married for 56 years.  As a supporting wife and mother, Tina worked at A & P and Goldberg's super markets, as a proficient cashier throughout her life. She was closely involved in her children's lives serving as a Girl Scout Mother and chaperoning and driving on numerous field trips for her children, St. Peter's school and Lorain Catholic High school.

Tina was a practicing Catholic and one of the kindest people you would have ever met.  She was a member of St. Peter's Mission Sisters that made dolls for orphans overseas.  She served as one of the Church's sacristans and also was a Eucharistic Minister and delivered the Blessed Eucharist to the sick.

When it came to the Community of Lorain, Tina, along with her husband Matt and brother Marino and his wife Margret, was involved with the famous Lorain International Festival.  The "Real Homemade Italian Sausage" booth at the festival was always a hit.  People would come for miles, line up for hours, just to taste that famous sausage her husband Matt and Marino made.  Through all of their hard work together, the four of them had the time of their lives during the days of the festival.

Christina (Tina) Del Grosso will be missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchild, her siblings and her friends from all around the nation; especially those friends she lived with during her stay at the Providence House, a family oriented assisting living home for the past few years and the Halcyon Hospice for the final days of her life.  Although Tina, while being gone from this life in body, lives on in all the people she touched.  Her life was one of true humility, graciousness and most important; kindness.  The world is just a little sadder without Tina here, but we go on as she would; Strong, but never forgetting to be Kind along the Way.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 4:00- 8:00 PM.
