Lorain- James Malcolm (Jim,Red) McPhie, 62, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.

He was born on September 30, 1947. He attended St. Marys Academy for 12 years, graduating in 1965. Jim was a stand-out football player, earning All-Conference honors as a Senior. Upon graduation, Jim enlisted in his beloved United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably for four years, including 13 months in Vietnam, where he earned two purple hearts in defense of his country.

Following his years of service, Jim joined the Lorain Fire Department, on which he served for twenty five years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant, retiring in 1998. Jim then split his time between Lorain and Arizona. In Arizona, Jim spent time with his daughter, Laurie, his granddaughter, Arielle McPhie and his grandson, Logan Lamothe. He loved golf and his Notre Dame football.

He is survived by his wife, Toni (nee:Furci) McPhie; daughter Laurie(Tony); grandchildren, Arielle and Logan; mother, Eileen McPhie; brothers, Gus (Mary), Joe (Maribeth), Bob (Vicki), Bill (Barb); and his sister, Cathie (Herb Watling); brother-in-law, Joe Furci; also, Uncle Jim will be missed by his nephews and nieces, Christi, Michael, Molly, Brian, Sarah, Matthew, Brian, Chris, Megan, Katie and Colleen and 14 great nieces/nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm; son, Brett William; brother, Richard Keith.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440)244-1961 on Friday, August 27, 2010 from 2:00 8:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home Saturday morning at 9:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Mary, Mother of God Parish, 310 8th Street, Lorain, Fr. Daniel O Divis, Pastor, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where military honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps and services by the Lorain Fire Department.
