Mr. Harold G. Gunderson Jr

Elyria- Harold G. "Harry" Gunderson Jr., 84, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

One of twelve children, he was born on June 1, 1930 in Whitehall, Wisconsin. Harry enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving for 22 years as a Gunners Mate 1st Class. He lived in Kearny, AZ following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy from 1968 until 1982 and moved to Elyria from 1982 until 2014. Harry was later employed by Elyria Schools as a mechanic. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, and working on his lawnmowers and cars.

He is survived by his children, Tamra (Mike) King, Harold G. Gunderson III, Anthony, Rory, Kirk (Kim) and Scotty Layberger; siblings, Jim, Bruce and Barbara Gunderson; grandchildren, Hilary, Trisha, Kathryn, Lora and Byron; great grandchildren; and several family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma L. (nee:Woods) Gunderson; parents, Harold G. Sr and Hannah M. (nee:Olson) Gunderson; siblings, Gordon, Floyd, Robert, Walter, Helen, Curly, Mary Jean and Larry Gunderson.  

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the funeral home, Pastor Howard Crabtree, officiating. Burial services will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Twp, OH where military honors will be performed by the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20.
