Elyria- Richard R. Renker, 83, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011 at his home in Elyria, OH.

Richard was born on July 2, 1927 in Lorain, OH to his parents, James and Bertha (nee: Zboray) Renker.

Richard was born and resided most of his life in Lorain, OH. He worked for his father in the family business, Renker Plumbing and later worked for U.S. Steel. He retired from Lorain County Highway Department. Following retirement he moved and resided in Palm Harbor, FL for ten years, returning to Elyria, OH in 2001 to be closer to his family. He was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church (formerly Delaware Ave., UMC) in Lorain for over 30 years. He loved living close to Lake Erie, spending time on Florida beaches, cruises but his true love was his family. He loved living so close to Lake Erie and spending time on beaches in Florida. He had a long history of heart problems and was one of the early open heart patients at the Cleveland Clinic in 1970. He was a founding member of the Lorain County Zipper Club for open heart surgery patients.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alice Pat Renker; daughters, Sherry (Gary) Wharton of Elyria, OH and Terry (Jim) Renker-Charlton of Manassas, VA; six grandchildren, Christina Boudreau, Kay Charlton, David Wharton, Tracy Gantz, Katie Fulton and Karie Wharton; and two great grandchildren, Kylie Wharton and Cameron Gantz.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha Renker; sister, Alice Amato; brother, William Renker; and several aunts, uncles, close relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440)244-1961 on Monday, January 10, 2011 from 6:00 8:00 PM.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Rd., Lorain, OH , Rev. Greg Sellers, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.  Memorial donations may be made to Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, building fund, 3015 Meister Rd., Lorain, OH 44053.
